Twenty-plus years ago, men and women of incredible courage embarked on a journey to achieve freedom from a genocidal regime. Crawling out of inferiority, refusing to conform, and challenging existing narratives led to the Rwanda of today.

It came with heavy sacrifice; costing some their lives, and selflessly leaving their loved ones behind, all in the aim to achieve freedom.

Liberation for us is having open dialogue about what we want Rwanda to be, and build relationships that gather ideas on how to move forward, with a guiding leadership that involves and relies on ordinary citizens to achieve sustainable development: that of education, health, infrastructure and, most important, that of thought.

With every individual knowing from what they are freeing themselves, the clearer they know what their contribution is going to be and how they are going to make it with absolute certainty.

Happy Liberation Day, Rwanda.
