No Rwandan artist — outside of the mainstream — has worked harder than 1Key (born Eric Ngangare). From leaving behind a successful career in advertising to surviving the city’s complicated nightlife, he has remained true to his craft over the years. And since his first studio album, Entre 2 (Between Two), 1Key has done a lot to remain the same: his poetry is deep and meaningful, his persona so original, and his projects are largely products of experiments. But he has evolved. And, oftentimes, his art and poetry have inspired those who see a part of themselves in his message and creativity.
