On the evening of Thursday, 7 May 2015, a huge crowd converged at the rooftop of the Kigali Public Library in Kacyiru. The rendezvous had been set for a week or so, mainly through open invitations shared via the web.
“Invitation – Spoken Word at Innovation Village,” the subject of one email to a member of The Kigalian. It also explains how this is not the usual monthly spoken word events:
We would like to invite you to an evening of storytelling, poetry and live jazz in partnership with Spoken Word Rwanda. A celebration of new beginnings and an introduction of Innovation Village […].
A few days later, there are messages circulating across Twitter and Facebook. People are talking about it; at least those who have always stood by the spoken word community.
