Makeda Leaves ‘Rise and Shine Rwanda’
Lead-presenter Makeda Mahadeo has announced she’s leaving popular breakfast TV show Rise and Shine Rwanda. “Today is my last day,” she told viewers, as she sat in the studio with presenters Régis Isheja and Phidelis Karangwa. “So I just came to say hello and bye to all the Rise-and-Shiners and to my favourite two people over here.”
A passionate Dj and local media personality of Rwandan-Jamaican origin, Makeda becomes second to leave the team, after lifestyle and entertainment presenter Allan Karakire who quit earlier this year.

In its 100th episode she explained what impact the show has had on her:
During my journey with Rise and Shine, I have not only learned a lot about my country, I have also learned so much about myself.
I asked Makeda why she’s leaving the show, and she told me she “just needed more time to focus on other projects” but will remain on The Switch, a famous music programme she hosts on local radio Contact FM.
Without her fabulous presentation skills, meticulous personal appearance, in-depth and adventurous reports, the show will never be the same; those who follow it closely will definitely miss her unique personality.
Co-produced by Legacy 45 Entertainment and Rwanda Broadcasting Agency, Rise and Shine Rwanda premiered on RTV on 15 October 2014. It airs every weekday, from 8 to 9 a.m. and rebroadcasts from 12 to 1 p.m.
