You’ve probably receive the notifications lately: as of today, all three telecommunications companies in Rwanda are using similar USSD codes for access to key services on mobile, such as loading airtime, checking balance, or contacting the Call Centre.

Here are some:

  • Load airtime: 130(voucher number)#
  • Checking balance: *131#
  • Call Centre toll-free: 100
  • Voicemail: 123

This is done as part of the implementation of directives of an East African Community policy to harmonise service numbers across all operators in the region.

AIrtel and Tigo have been using the codes since they launched. But MTN Rwanda, which is the recent implementer, says its customers will also however be able to use the old codes until the end of the year – for purposes of adaptation.
