Ideas, Stories, and Profiles

Early last last week, a photo of a young Rwandan man posing with somebody he claimed to be Babou-G, circulated on social media. No source could confirm it is the real Babu-G and rumours that MTN Rwanda had signed him up as their new brand ambassador, had emerged.

The Kigalian engaged MTN to confirm if the leading telecommunications company has found him and hired him, but the answer was something different.

“Kindly understand that we would not want to pre-empt anything by making a premature statement,” Teta Mpyisi, MTN’s Communications and PR Manager, told me via email.

She added that MTN would issue an official statement in case the rumours were true:

If and when we do sign him up as an ambassador, MTN will issue out an official announcement or have a press conference to inform everyone.

Throughout the week, various local news websites had hinted the hiring of Babou-G but it remained unclear if the information were true or not.

Babou-G, whose real identity and whereabouts remain unknown, rose to fame following his appearance on a TV10 show hosted by Jean-Baptiste Nibishaka.
