The word café is often used loosely. A restaurant with good espresso may claim it. A lounge may add a coffee machine and do the same. When everything becomes a café, the term loses precision.
A café is anchored in coffee. Coffee shapes the experience; food supports it but does not dominate. The menu is light to moderate, and the visit is not organised around full-service dining.
Just as important, a café is built for staying. It allows time — for conversation, reading, informal meetings, or quiet work — without pressure to move on. The space is arranged with that purpose in mind.
