Sunday Night Music: Boukuru's Umwali
A singer-song-writer combines emotion with careful craft, and her new video makes that effort visible.
In August 2024, we wrote that few rising artists blend the new and the old with ease. Boukuru was already doing so, carrying her voice across intimate gatherings and national stages alike. This month, she releases the video for Umwali, a track from her 2024 eleven-track album "Gikundiro", in honour of Women’s Month — and it lands with quiet force.
The song is tender, but the video adds weight. Careful and deliberate, it is hard not to see effort in the framing and restraint in the storytelling of this new release.
